I Want Florence Pugh's Neon Orange Eye Shadow to Be Spring's Biggest Trend

Bring back fun makeup on the red carpet, please.

Florence Pugh is always game to go there with her glam. The Oscar-nominated actor's looks are fearless and fun, like shaving her head right before the Met Gala, wearing spidery false lashes for a fashion show, and traveling to the year 3000 with futuristic makeup and a cool looped ponytail. She brings a bold viewpoint to the red carpet—one we really hope catches on this season.

For a screening of her new movie Thunderbolts in London, Pugh and makeup artist Alex Babsky went fluorescent (or is it Flo-resecent?) with bright, vivid red-orange eye shadow brushed across her eyes in an exaggerated “swoosh” shape. The color was concentrated all over her lid and blended past the inner corner of her eye, then swooped outward in a cat-eye shape. And this isn't a bronze or copper orange; this is Orange with a capital O.

The vivid shade was anchored by tightlined black liner and only the subtlest touch of mascara on both the upper and lower lashes, then paired with bronzed skin and a soft-matte rose lip. Hairstylist Hyungsun Ju matched the futuristic vibes of Pugh's shadow by slicking the star's dark blonde hair back from her face for an almost-wet look, then flicking out the ends. The wet-look bob and orange shadow combo is right at home for a premiere, but it would also look beyond cool for a stylish summer wedding or big night out with friends; just add a LBD and some cool earrings like Pugh's and you're golden.

The red carpet can often feel like a sea of sameness, so big, bold moves like Pugh's are always a pleasant surprise. (Remember her “Oppenheimer orange” buzz cut? That was so much fun.) Even Coachella, which is usually a very playful beauty environment, felt more subdued than in years past. It seems like we're in a very “soft and subtle” era of barely there makeup and manis, but as warmer weather approaches, we're begging for more bright orange eye shadow on the red carpet, please!
